Signature Authentication

As some, or many, may know there’s a procedure called notary authentication which verifies the signature of the notary public in order to determine the validity of the document for further legalization.

I bet many had experienced an issue with this step. There’s no reason to deny it. There are countless post in numerous blogs out there describing the similar situation. The one when you bring in the document for Notary authentication and get turned around due to the fact that there’s one extra letter(the middle initial) or the absence thereof on the notary stamp which doesn’t match the records of the authentication office.

I felt embarrassed at first, it felt like the person in authentication office thought that I was forging signatures. Thankfully, they were quick enough to explain that this happens quite often and there’s nothing to worry about.

As I see it, there are two solutions to the issue:

1. Get another copy of the document and sign it infront of the nearest notary public, like county clerk.

or

2. Go back to the Notary that notarized the document, explain the situation to them, have them cross out (or add) a middle initial and re-stamp the document, and then have them sign it next to all the corrections made.

In any case, this delays the process, and may be frustrating when you are on the time constrains. After some efforts you’ll find the notary that suits your needs if you do legalize documents regularly.
